I am sure that you remember how to find the area of a rectangle.
area = length x width
If you look at the rectangular prism drawn below, you can see that the box is made from 6 different rectangles.
Surface area is very similar to area.
To find surface area, first you find the area of each face of the prism and then you simply add all the areas together.
Please remember that the units on your answer should be square units since this is an area measurement.
1. Find the area of the top, the bottom, the front, the back, the left, and the right sides of the prism shown above.
2. Find the total surface area of the box shown above.
